2023- Lost Sods- Postcards from the Edge
A series of 20 postcard size drawings with dates and locations, suspended from four wooden poles attached to the ceiling of the gallery between the breeze of two windows slightly ajar.
The drawings themselves depict the aftermath of the appearance of sinkholes in various parts of the world including Ireland, that consider the impact of a sudden and traumatic change.
The postcards also act as a nod to the Irish folklore phrase of ‘Standing on the Lost Sod’ a reference to someone staring into space, caught in a trance moment. According to Irish fairy folklore, sometimes when one steps on a lost sod, one may be transported to the underworld where time moves differently, or one may not come back at all!
This work was shown as part of ‘Looking Seeing’ an exhibition of drawing curated by Dorothy Smith, featuring works by Sahoko Blake, Raphael Hynes, Maeve McCarthy, Ida Mitrani and Michael Wann and myself at the Droichead Arts Centre in 2023.
