2019 EMIT

My second solo exhibition at the Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda, Co Louth.

In September 2015, almost a year after my son was born, three year old Alan Kurdi was washed up on a beach in Turkey with his family in an effort to cross the Mediterranean Sea for what they imagined would be a better life.

At the same time, deforestation in the Amazon was continuing at an alarming rate and I continued to live near the Boyne Valley and Clogherhead beach in relative safety and comfort.

The work from this pre-Covid time explored themes of protection, migration, climate, nature and motherhood in a precarious, unequal and contradictory time.
